What are the effects of Mica on the modification of plastics?
The effects of Mica on the modification of plastics are mainly reflected in six aspects: mechanical properties, mechanical properties, heat resistance, damping properties, optical properties and electrical properties.
1. Mechanical properties: mica with two-dimensional sheet structure plays a plane reinforcing role in plastics, improving the bending modulus and tensile strength of products. Compared with glass fiber reinforced plastics, mica reinforced plastics have higher modulus and lower warpage;
2. Mechanical properties: the mica orientation in the plastic is uniform, which ensures the product is isotropic, prevents warpage and gives the product excellent dimensional stability. Mica is the mineral filler that has the most obvious effect on the shrinkage of PP and PA modified materials, which can significantly reduce the molding shrinkage of products;
3. Heat resistance: mica powder has good thermal stability (high temperature resistance above 600 ℃). It can not only insulate the heat, but also inhibit the generation of volatiles in the thermal decomposition process of plastics, and improve the thermal stability (thermal deformation temperature and high temperature creep resistance);
4. Damping performance: the addition of mica powder has a great contribution to increase the damping performance of the products. Under the combined effect of volume effect and friction effect of flake filler, the energy loss of the material is the most, and the greater the damping value is;
5. Optical properties: mica is a natural mineral filler with UV shielding performance (shielding ratio is more than 80%) and mechanical enhancement effect. In some application systems, the UV shielding effect of PP can completely replace the organic UV absorber, greatly reducing the production cost of polymer composites;
6. Electrical performance: the insulation performance of mica has always been well known and applied. In the field of low-voltage electrical appliances (such as PA modified leakage protection, air switch, junction box, electrical components, etc.) and electrical communication, mica filling is an ideal choice
